Gilbert tog første sejr siden Ardenner-hattrick

Selvom Philippe Gilbert har holdt en måneds pause siden Ardenner-klassikerne så er han stadig urørlig. Omega Pharma-Lottos stjerne vandt nemlig dagens etape i hjemlandets etapeløb Belgien Rundt og dermed er han naturligvis også stadig i førertrøjen før sidste etape i morgen.

Belgien Rundts tredje etape var 202 kilometer lang og gik fra Bertem til Eupen. Etapen var forholdsvis kuperet og rytterne skulle op over flere velkendte stigninger. Tre ryttere viste sig som de stærkeste, det var Philippe Gilbert, Greg Van Avermaet (BMC Racing Team) og Björn Leukemans (Vacansoleil-DCM).

Selvom Avermaet på papiret måske nok var den hurtigste af de tre, så blev det Philippe Gilbert som snuppede sejren foran landsmanden. Dermed gik tredjepladsen til Leukemans mens Bert de Waele (Landbouwkrediet) også kørte en flot etape og kom i mål kun syv sekunder efter de tre.

Gilbert har nu et forspring på femten sekunder ned til Avermaet i den samlede stilling mens Leukemans er 29 sekunder efter på tredjepladsen. Løbet slutter i morgen og det vil være højst overraskende hvis Gilbert ikke snupper den samlede sejr.
