Hushovd hurtigst i Storbritannien

De 184 kilometer fra Welshpool til Caerphilly var rimelig kuperede efter britiske forhold med stigningen Brecon Beacons knap 60 kilometer fra mål og den korte Caerphilly Mountain bare fem kilometer fra mål.

Et tidligt udbrud med Jack Bauer (Endura Racing), Pieter Ghyllebert (An Post - Sean Kelly) og Kristian House (Rapha Condor - Sharp) var foran feltet på det meste af etapen. De nåede op til 5.40 i forspring, inden Sky og Rabobank satte sig frem i feltet for at køre dem ind.

Og de blev også hentet med omkring seks kilometer til mål, hvorefter Sky også satte et hårdt tempo op ad Caerphilly Mountain.

Dette havde verdensmesteren, Thor Hushovd, dog ingen problemer med. Han vandt feltets spurt i Caerphilly, mens Lars Boom (Rabobank) blev nummer to og dermed stadig fører samlet.
