UCI kommissær tog trøjen fra førende rytter

nullEfter en fremragende etape i går overtog den unge hollænder, Joost Van Leijen, den samlede førsteplads i Herald Sun Tour. Efter dagens etape måtte han dog aflevere trøjen tilbage til Matthew Wilson fra Unibet.com holdet.

Det var ikke fordi, at Van Leijen ikke kunne følge med sine konkurrenter, at han tabte trøjen, men simpelthen på grund af en 20 sekunders tidsstraf for ulovlig pace. Med godt 45 kilometer til mål på dagens etape punkterede Joost Van Leijen og bagefter gav holdbilen ham pace tilbage til feltet igen. Eftersom UCI kommissærerne på en tidligere etape havde givet en tidsstraf til Astanas Steve Morabito for en lignende forseelse, var de også tvunget til at gøre det i dag.

Dagens etape blev vundet af Cameron Jennings fra DFL Cyclingnews holdet. Han var en del af et 13 mandsudbrud som kom afsted på dagens etape. I finalen blev udbruddet delt op i flere små grupper, og helt fremme lykkedes det Jennings at slå Peter Herzig (FRF Couriers-NSWIS) i spurten med hjælp fra sin holdkammerat Jeremy Vennell.

I morgen skal rytterne igennem en 8,6 kilometer lang enkeltstart i Melbourne, inden løbet slutter på søndag med et hårdt gadeløb.
