5. plads til Matti Breschel

nullI dag blev sidste etape af Tour of Ireland kørt med start i Athlone og mål i Dublin efter 147.7 km. Løbet blev samlet vundet af den unge Unibet.com rytter Stijn Vandenbergh, som også vandt første etape i etapeløbet efter en flot solo sejr. 

Løbets sidste etape endte med etapesejr til Marco Marcato (Team LPR) foran Thomas Berkhout (Rabobank Continental) og David O'Loughlin (Navigators Insurance Cycling Team). De tre ryttere havde fået så lang snor af feltet, at de faktisk indhentede dem på de afgørende omgange inde i Dublin. Kommissærerne besluttede derfor, at trioen skulle afgøre kampen om etapesejren først, før feltet kunne køre om fjerdepladsen.

I kampen om fjerdepladsen var Matti Breschel næstbedst og fik derfor en femteplads. Dette betød, at den danske rytter blev samlet vinder af pointkonkurrencen. Glenn Bak (Murphy & Gunn) blev nummer syv samlet.
