Levi Leipheimer ødelagde sensationen

nullLøbet bød bl.a. comeback og debut til den tidligere Team CSC-rytter Ivan Basso, som nu stiller til start for Discovery Channel holdet. Tour of California startede med en 3.1 km lang prolog. Det lignede den helt store sensation før sidste års prologvinder Levi Leipheimer blev sendt ud på ruten. Amerikanske Jason Donald (Team Slipstream) førte nemlig prologen foran Benjamin Jacques-Maynes (Priority Health) og Rory Sutherland (Health Net Maaxis).

Men Levi Leipheimer ødelagde festen for de små hold, da han lige præcis kørte et sekund hurtigere end Jason Donald og vandt dermed prologen.
